The Elder Scrolls 6 can wait, we’re getting an Oblivion remake this year

It's beautiful

Calm down, I didn’t really mean that The Elder Scrolls VI could wait, I want it as much as the next person.

However, this remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion has crept up on me and will be coming out this year, so my excitement will abate for a while.

Oblivion brings back the heady days of the Xbox 360, and it's still a banger

While we are rumoured to be getting an official remake of the classic game, modders and community creators have been tirelessly working away at Skyblivion.

This is a project that will remake the third Elder Scrolls game within the engine of Skyrim.

The team has been working on this project since 2012, and it’s finally coming out this year.

According to the YouTube page which hosts the trailer, it’s still on target and will be the size of a AAA game when it drops.

Based on the Skyrim Special Edition, the game is being built from the ground up featuring every quest, item, and monster you remember from the original game.

While the last official update on their website was back in May, they did showcase “gameplay systems, a part of the world map, a new city, Ayleid dungeons and much more.”

If you’re interested in helping the team, they’re still looking for volunteers who can bring the project over the finish line.

As for many players, Oblivion was one of my favourite games on the Xbox 360 and, at the time, it really showed off the console.

The moment of stepping out of the opening dungeons and into the vast open-world is a feeling I’ll never forget.

Though Morrowind will always be my favourite in the Elder Scrolls series, Oblivion got more of my time because it felt truly ‘next-gen’ on release.

It’s going to be lovely to wander the lands of Cyrodil once again but with a shinier aesthetic.
