The Elder Scrolls fans are convinced that the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI will surface today, on 29 June, in a belated celebration of a major milestone for Bethesda.
On 28 June, Bethesda turned 40, although it remarkably did precisely nothing to mark or celebrate the occasion.
There could be a good reason for that, and it’s because the anniversary fell on a Sunday.
While, yes, Bethesda could have set up a scheduled tweet, the weekend isn’t exactly when you should make your biggest announcements if you want optimum media coverage.

It’s for that reason that The Elder Scrolls fans are adamant that Bethesda will mark its 40th anniversary by offering an update on The Elder Scrolls VI.
“Relax, tomorrow [29 June], we will get news,” began Reddit user Optimal-Fox-3875.
“I know today (Sunday) was the 40th anniversary, and Bethesda are also aware of this, but it's a Sunday. We should wait till tomorrow (Monday), that is when the team is in the office, when the community managers are working.”
They continued, “Keep in mind, while a lot of people at Bethesda love Bethesda and the franchises they work with, it is still a job, and so let us wait until they come back to the office the day after the 40th anniversary and keep an eye out on their socials as that is when we would be getting any info.”
“Me today,” posted DScales2000, adding the ‘C’mon do something’ meme.

On a post by In_Chains678 acknowledging the lack of news on the actual day of the anniversary, many replied with assurances of “nah it’s tomorrow”.
When Bethesda does finally drop an update on The Elder Scrolls VI, it’s likely not going to be without rhyme or reason.
If the game doesn’t surface at a major showcase like The Game Awards or the annual Xbox Showcase, a tease is perhaps most likely to coincide with an anniversary or something of that ilk.
You can understand why then fans are theorising that news may be ready to drop, especially as we’re eight years on from The Elder Scrolls VI’s initial reveal.
Unfortunately, I’m going to burst the bubble of excitement. While many major studios and publishers do mark their anniversaries, it’s not something we’ve often seen from Bethesda.
In fact, Bethesda is quite a quiet studio much of the time, opting not to always publicly pat itself on the back.

Previous anniversaries have come and gone with next to no fanfare, which suggests that we likely won’t hear from Bethesda today.
That’s by no means set in stone. A 40th anniversary is pretty significant, far more significant than recent unmarked years of 37, 38, and 39 years and so on.
Given that the latest Xbox Showcase was only held a few short weeks ago, though, you have to assume that if The Elder Scrolls VI was ready to show off, it would have appeared there.
The best we can maybe hope for is a social media post acknowledging the anniversary and reconfirming, as has happened before, that The Elder Scrolls VI remains in development and will surface when the time is right.
