Tom Clancy’s The Division is back, and you can play it for free right now.

Released in 2016 by Ubisoft, Tom Clancy’s The Division is set in a post-apocalyptic world following a viral pandemic and the collapse of society.

You, the player, an Agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, are tasked with restoring order by investigating the origins of the virus and taking down ruthless factions that embrace the mass disorder.

Sadly, while the concept of Tom Clancy’s The Division was good on paper and had some solid third-person shooter action set in an intriguing world, the levelling system was too grindy, and enemies were bullet sponges, and the rewards felt unfulfilling

Ubisoft released a series of patches to address player feedback, but the fixes were too little too late, with player numbers on a decline. Then we had its sequel in 2019, but it wasn't enough to get the series back on track despite being a much-improved game.

Is a Third Time a Charm for The Division?

Not taking into account the free-to-play multiplayer game that was cancelled before it was released, Ubisoft has now released a third game in the series with Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, which is quite a fitting name given its format.

What is The Division Resurgence?

The Division Resurgence is a free-to-play third-person shooter mobile game. By the looks of things, this will be very much of a similar ilk to its console counterparts, with RPG mechanics located in an open-world. It’s also set between the events of the two mainline games and returns to New York City.

The Division Resurgence Modes and Features

  • New Story Campaign.
  • Single player and co-op missions in a shared open world.
  • Five Character Classes: Demolitionist, Bulwark, Field Medic, Tech Operator, and Vanguard.
  • Four Enemy Factions: Raiders, Rikers, Cleaners, and Freemen (new faction).
  • Dark Zone PvPvE returns.
  • Features End Game content such as replayable missions, Lone Wolf Challenges to unlock new rewards, clan missions to upgrade facilities, gather resources and more.
  • The game will be supported with post-launch content updates.

Where Can I Play The Division Resurgence?

The Division Resurgence is available on compatible iOS and Android devices, and can be downloaded right now for free via the App Store and Google Play. Will this latest attempt be a success or a flop? Only time will tell.
