It seems as though Ubisoft has bitten off more than it can chew once again after the company recently revealed it would be cancelling a title that has been in development for over 3 years.
Despite Ubisoft revealing its long-awaited Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer just yesterday, the day was far from a full success for the company after it also revealed it would be cancelling its F2P shooter, Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland.

In a report from IGN, it seems as though Ubisoft will be scrapping the project to focus on “bigger opportunities” such as fellow F2P shooter XDefiant and the long-running Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.
Heartland was first announced way back in 2021 and as a standalone experience, it was to be headed by Red Storm Entertainment. However, now 3 years on and the project has been completely scrapped and despite no concrete reason being given, we can assume it is because Ubisoft didn’t think it could stand on its own two feet in the market.
Its statement read: “After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately.
Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our Red Storm Entertainment studio, who will be transitioning to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”

Although it is never good news to lose a game so far into development, it is reassuring to see that Ubisoft will be taking Red Storm Entertainment under its wing for fellow projects.
However, it seems as though Tom Clancy fans will have to head back to 2019’s The Division 2 whilst they wait for a third instalment which is reportedly in the works. It is worth noting that this may be a while away though as Ubisoft only confirmed that a third entry was arriving last September.
