The Boys is one of Amazon Prime Video’s most popular series and it’s still going strong four years after it initially launched.

The first episode of The Boys premiered on 26 July 2019 and within its first few opening minutes, it perfectly set the tone of the series with its brutal, gruesome and shocking beginning. When Hughie Campbell (Jack Quad) stood on the side of the road with his girlfriend, his encounter with A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) is one to remember for the ages.

Based on the comic series of the same name from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys tells an alternative tale of the superhero life. One that is not the usual squeaky clean triumphant tale. The evil Vought International corporation monetizes its superhero brand and manipulates the public into believing that they are savours, in particular with the collective group known as ‘The Seven’ led by the sociopathic Homelander.

Four years after its debut on Prime Video, the series remains as popular as ever, as we lead into its fourth season. What’s more, it’s quite baffling to think that The Boys almost never was when it began production in 2008 as a movie but was cancelled soon after, before the project was revived as a series in 2016.

In celebration of its fourth birthday, fans of The Boys have been reliving its ‘game-changing’ opening scene. “It only took them three minutes of runtime to show the world they were ready to change the game,” tweeted @NicholasPas5.

“I just started rewatching this again. It hasn't lost its touch,” replied @IronRoyalx. “I remember showing my work colleague this. He didn’t know why I was staring at him waiting for his response. Then suddenly… “HOLY S***!!!” said @ReckersLive.

In related news, Amazon has recently announced a new spin-off series for The Boys with a teaser trailer and a September release date, oh, and Homelander is set to star in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1. God help us all!

The release date for season four of The Boys hasn't been announced, but many hope that it will be released by the end of this year or early 2024. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that it arrives sooner, rather than later.
