Taron Egerton Would Love To Be Wolverine, Confirms Meeting With Marvel

The Kingsman and Rocketman star, who recently expressed his interest in playing Wolverine, revealed he's had a meeting with Marvel Studios.

If there’s anything that Marvel fans love, beyond sitting through credits in the hopes of seeing a few more seconds of action at the end of their blockbusters, it’s making their own casting choices. Not that there’s ever universal agreement on them, of course, but there’s still some really popular choices.

Marvel themselves clearly pay attention to these, too. In fact, it’s been revealed that one of the cameos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (which I’m not going to write here, because spoilers) was included because of how much people wanted to see it, which is undeniably cool, actually.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available to stream now on Disney+ - take a look at the trailer right here.

Now, it’s looking like fans could be in for another dream casting come true. As reported by ComicBook, Kingsman and Rocketman star Taron Egerton has confirmed that he recently had a meeting with Marvel Studios. This comes right on the back of him revealing that he’d be interested in becoming Wolverine in the MCU. Coincidence? I think not.

He expressed his interest in the role in an interview with The New York Times: “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that,” he said, when asked if he hopes to succeed Hugh Jackman. “I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.”

When directly asked by ComicBook if he’d be interested in joining the X-Men cast, he said he’d “love to”, so we’ll have to watch this space. Egerton isn’t the only actor who’s expressed interest in taking on Wolverine, though. Earlier this year, Scott Eastwood encouraged fans to set up a petition to get him into the role - he’s previously revealed that the character is one of his favourite comic book heroes, so it’s no wonder that he’s down.

Meanwhile, in March, the star of Paramount+’s highly contentious Halo series, Pablo Schreiber, revealed that he and Marvel had “flirted” with the idea of him being the new face of Wolverine before, and that it’d be “a dream” to do it. Watching that incredibly uncomfortable Master Chief sex scene could have changed Marvel’s mind about the idea, though.
