Following the massive success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, it surely makes sense for a sequel, right?

To say that the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination Entertainment, the creators of the Minions franchise, was a box-office success, would be an understatement. Despite not scoring too highly from critics, it proved to be a massive success with the audience, garnering a fantastic score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What’s more, not only did Super Mario Bros. Movie achieved the biggest opening for an animated film ever, but it also smashed the box office generating over $1 billion worldwide! So, you can bet your last quid that this movie will be getting a sequel.

If the indication of a sequel wasn't confirmed by the post-credit scene of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, MCU actor, Chris Pratt who also plays Mario has now teased that news on the sequel is on the way soon.

As reported by Comicbook.com, Pratt was talking to Entertainment Tonight, the Star-Lord actor said: “We're in the midst of this writers' strike, and so everything has been paused and [put] on hold for the right reasons. I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed, and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it'll be time to start talking about what's next for that.”

In our review of The Super Mario. Bros Movie, we said: “There was never any doubt that Jack Black is the perfect person to play Bowser, and seeing (or rather, hearing) him in action proves this once and for all. While he totally nails the serious villainous scenes, he also uncovers a goofier side to Mario’s arch nemesis that’s hilarious to watch, and doesn’t feel at all out of place.”

Super Mario Bros. Movie is available on home release digitally now with its physical release arriving soon.
