Nintendo Switch leak confirms Super Smash Bros' big return

It looks like Nintendo itself might have just leaked an upcoming Super Smash Bros return. Oops.

The last major Super Smash Bros game came in 2018 with Ultimate, and we’re just biding time until Nintendo is ready to announce the next one.

Considering the whole “everyone is here” vibe of Super Smash Bros Ultimate though, plus comments from series creator Masahiro Sakurai, it looks like we may not get another Smash game for a long while.

In the meantime though, we could at least get some older Smash games available to play on modern systems, and it appears that may be the case.

While Nintendo might be busy ramping up efforts to bring over GameCube games to Nintendo Switch Online, fans are hopeful that some missing Nintendo 64 games will eventually make their way over.

One of those games in particular is the original Super Smash Bros, which came out for the N64 in 1999.

And now it seems like Nintendo itself might have leaked that the game is coming.

As spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user Sxips, in the recent Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics: Features Update released in May by Nintendo, a blurred version of the Super Smash Bros box art can be seen in the background.

I’ve no idea how the internet sleuths can spot stuff like this, but once you line up the image from the video alongside the real box art, it makes sense.

Although bangers like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 are available on the service, it seems strange that Super Smash Bros is still yet to be brought over.

However, this seems like confirmation from Nintendo that the game will be made available at some point in the future, so we’ll have to sit tight and wait for it.
