There really is nothing better than a free game and Steam has done a wonderful job of bringing plenty of those to us over the last decade or more.
Developers make their games free-for-all sorts of reasons, from trying to draw their income via the perpetual hellscape that is microtransactions, to generating hype or interest merely by having a larger audience for their game.
The real winners in all of that manoeuvring is us, the players, but it can be difficult to know which of the free offerings are the ones to go for, particularly if you don't really know where to look.
Fortunately, four new games have just hit the storefront that should appeal to fans of a wide variety of genres, and with so little risk to getting involved, what are you waiting for?

Huge MMO and Charming Date Simulator Free on Steam
As first reported by Free Steam Games on Twitter/X, the first of the three games on offer is Sword of Justice, a Chinese open world MMO with impressive visuals and an immersive atmosphere, set within a "pulsing martial world."
The game itself is based on the classic literary masterpiece the The Four Great Constables: Sword of Justice, by Wen Ruian. If you re usually put off MMOs by the potential grind then this may be the best option for you.

As confirmed by the developers, Sword of Justice introduces a system known as "paths converge," where competitive and casual players can grab the same rewards via their preferred playstyles. They also promise no pay-to-win mechanics or paywalls, so this may well be worth a try if you're looking to get your first taste of the genre.
Up next we have fish Fish Cubed: First Catch, high-octane fishing adventure where you play through Time Attack stages in order to catch fish in ever more eccentric and ingenious ways.
Solitaire Battle Online, as the name may suggest, is a release based around the popular card games Solitaire and Spider. There are some additional mechanics here and some boosts, but if you've played the in-built Windows version then you know what to expect here.
Lastly, and perhaps most interestingly of the four, we have Date Boy, a game in which you need to surreptitiously play your classic Game Boy while on a date.

Comedy is the overriding purpose here and I have to say it does look like it does a pretty good job of that. If you're into fun little story games, then this is absolutely one you should take a look at.
