Starfield sets huge Bethesda record, reaches 10 million players in first few weeks

Starfield is still breaking records since its launch earlier this month. With news that it has already reached 10 million players, it seems like Bethesda has another hit on its hands.

With highly successful games under its belt such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the Fallout series, Bethesda is showing no signs of stopping with news that its latest RPG may be its most successful game yet.

Take a look at our Starfield review below!

Launched on September 6, Starfield has already reached over 10 million players, according to a recent announcement by the studio. This milestone means it is officially Bethesda’s biggest launch yet which seems unbelievable considering it is responsible for some of the most loved franchises.

The studio took to Twitter on September 19 to make the announcement. “Thank you to more than 10 million Starfield explorers for creating the biggest launch in Bethesda history”, it read. However, it is worth remembering it had already beat its current record after 6 million players took to the skies and with not even a month since launch, it shows no signs of slowing down.

Despite its success, Starfield has been met with its fair share of criticism. With some players unhappy with the game’s endless loading screens and hilarious bugs, it is perhaps no surprise that 25% of players didn’t make it past the tutorial. As a result, it currently sits at a 6.6 user score on Metacritic as opposed to the 84 rating as a result of critic reviews.

However, it can’t be all bad as our very own Kate Harrold awarded the game a 10/10 and praised its compelling story, interesting side missions and unbounded freedom.

“Starfield is without a doubt a monumental release - and not just because it's Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years,” she wrote. “Every now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of. Starfield is that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout.”
