Stardew Valley fans realise they’ve been playing wrong for years

Who else knew this?

Stardew Valley players have learned that they’ve been doing something wrong in the game for years.

When we think of the term “indie darling”, a few games might come to mind. Such as Fez, Hollow Knight and Hades, to name a few. Another game that might come to mind is the aforementioned Stardew Valley.

Developed by ConcernedApe, originally released in 2016 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, before being ported to just about every other platform imaginable, Stardew Valley is one of the most beloved indie games of all time.

“You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?” reads the synopsis of the game.

One of the most important features in Stardew Valley is crafting, especially when it comes to storing resources on your farm. However, depending on how big your farm gets, you might quickly run out of space.

That being said, your items will still increase over time, so you’ll need storage boxes and thus, your items will require a lot of organising and moving about. This in itself could become a tedious task, especially if you’re moving one item at a time.

But what if there were a less tedious method when it comes to organising your items and storage boxes? Well, that method has been discovered by the Reddit user musingsofapathy.

“There I am, with a big shed full of simple wooden chests, but I am running out of room for staple items. Solution: build big chests,” they wrote. “But all of that time to transfer items, needing a third chest to hold the items while transferring.”

“Luckily, ConcernedApe is a genius and made things convenient. Want to change chests? Just use the new chest on top of the old chest, and it will not only transfer all of the items from old to new, but also the name and colour. Thank you, ConcernedApe!”

As you can imagine, many of the Reddit users in the thread were delighted to hear of this very convenient time-saving tactic in Stardew Valley.

“I didn't know you could just throw the big chest on top of the other chest and it transferred the items,” replied Lilnephilim. “I've wasted SO MUCH time. Thank you for this information, it'll definitely save me time going forward.”

“Yes! Such a helpful feature,” said arboresca.

“I've been putting off transferring to bigger chests because it's so annoying doing it manually. Thanks for the tip!” exclaimed laterallysocute.

So next time, when moving items from box to box in Stardew Valley, just remember to get stacking to make life much easier.
