Nintendo Switch users are in for a treat thanks to a surprise free game that is available to play for a limited time so, what are you waiting for?

Courtesy of Europe’s new Nintendo Switch Online Free Game Trial programme, users will be able to try before they buy with a series of popular titles.

First up and guaranteed to get people pulling their Nintendo Switch out of the drawer is Hollow Knight which is available to try for free from 6 June to 12 June.

Check out the trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong below!

“Descend into darkness and explore the vast, interconnected world of Hallownest in the Hollow Knight Game Trial,” read the announcement. “Nintendo Switch Online members can play the full game for free now until 12/06.”

Released back in 2017, the Metroidvania Soulslike platformer is one of the most successful in its genre with it often being hailed as a “masterpiece” in gaming.

Players will adventure through a vast and ruined kingdom of insects and heroes, battling bizarre bugs and navigating twisting and dangerous caverns. Drawn in a beautiful 2D style, Hollow Knight will go down in history as one of the best platformers of all time.

So much so that its long-awaited sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was first announced way back in 2019 still shows no signs of being released. Becoming something of a meme and myth online, it may be a while until we see the highly-anticipated sequel.

However, for now, Nintendo Switch Online members can try out or revisit Hollow Knight simply by heading to the Switch eShop during its trial period.

With many believing adding it to the Nintendo Switch shop just before the Summer Game Fest is a bit of a coincidence, we could still be donning our clown wig and being in for a night of disappointment.
