Stardew Valley's dark secret is really freaking players out

"Nightmare fuel"

Stardew Valley is, for the most part, a pretty wholesome game; it’s one many of us turn to when we just want to relax and unwind.

That’s not to say though that it’s totally without any dark or unsettling elements.

In fact, one such dark secret has been terrorising players for years.

In real life, the idea of venturing down to the woods at night alone fills me with terror.

In Stardew Valley though, I’d do it without hesitation … Well, that was until this spooky being changed my mind.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a charming game if you enjoy Stardew Valley.

It’s perhaps better that you see this being for yourself.

“I SAW THE DARK CREATURE,” screamed Reddit user Odd-Mistake-1313, attaching a clip of the encounter.

That’s right, the ‘Dark Creature’ is very real.

What is he/she? Well, it’s hard to say. The ‘Dark Creature’ looks part Bigfoot, part Swamp Thing.

There is a very small and random chance that you can encounter the Dark Creature in Pelican Town, Cindersap Forest, or the Secret Woods.

As I said, it’s randomised and it was years before I encountered it myself.

This Dark Creature is unrelated to the one that may appear following Strange Capsule events; that one is smaller in stature.

If you’re extra lucky - or unlucky, depending on your stance - the Dark Creature may even leave a footprint behind.

“Scared the s**t out of me when I saw it. I knew it was in the game, but not that it was so big,” replied Synchiropus22.

“I get so anxious whenever I walk by that path now. Nearly jumped in my seat when I saw it,” added hochicken96.

“Nightmare fuel,” remarked rougeoiseau.

Too right.

At least he seems friendly, I guess? Not that I’m in a rush to bump into him again anytime soon.
