A brand new official Star Wars prequel featuring characters from the cancelled Disney+ series The Acolyte is set to drop next month, and fans of the show are probably going to want to read it to find out more about two of the Jedis who were originally tasked with hunting down The Stranger.

Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown is an upcoming novel written by Tessa Gratton featuring padawans Yord Fandar and Jecki Lon, and it’s set to drop on July 29 next month.

Many of you many already be familiar with Tessa Gratton’s work, as she previously wrote both Star Wars: Temptation of the Force and the Star Wars: The High Republic series.

If you are, it should probably come as no surprise that the press release describes the upcoming novel as “Star Wars meets The Hunger Games”.

The two padawans will have to deal with a “planet-wide coming-of-age ritual as featured guests”, whatever that means, as their Jedi Masters are tasked with solving a different issue without them.

If you’ve watched The Acolyte (spoilers incoming if not), then you probably only remember Yord and Jecki for one thing; getting their asses handed to them by The Stranger.

I suppose in that sense, a prequel featuring them both does make a lot of sense considering they’re, y’know, dead. Don’t think these two are important enough to pop up as force ghosts in the future.

Kind of a shame they’re only committing to continuing (well, if you can call a prequel “continuing”) The Acolyte in book format, but hopefully this could go some way towards convincing Disney to renew the cancelled show if it sells well.

That being said, I can’t be the only one that would much rather see a prequel featuring Qimir instead.

Dude is literally the coolest character Disney has created during the time they’ve had their hands on the Star Wars franchise, and they seem oddly committed to doing absolutely nothing with him.
