Star Wars quietly makes major Prequels retcon

A Star Wars curveball

The Star Wars universe is chock-full of lore and history, much of which has become quite convoluted over time.

There’s often new creators who want to utilise characters, but the timelines may not allow for it, but due to the popularity of the character, some details are retconned in order to explore them further, in new Star Wars stories.

In the latest Star Wars story, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories - The Bad Batch - Ghost Agents, the previous meeting of the Bad Batch clone troopers and the assassin Asajj Ventriss is seemingly tweaked to better tell a cohesive story.

If you’ve watched the Disney Plus show, The Bad Batch, which acts as a prequel to the adventures of the original trilogy, you’ll know that Ventriss and the troopers met during the war.

However, in issue four of Ghost Agents, the characters meet face-to-face, and it appears as if it’s their first meeting.

This could, at first, seem like a retcon, removing the meeting they had within the animation, but really, it’s explained away by them being under masks in the show.

When they fought in scenes on the Disney show, Ventriss was masked, as were the troopers.

In the comics their appearances have changed somewhat, but they’re still hidden, so none of the characters would make the connection that they’ve fought previously.

There’s also the fact that each party has their own urgent need to simply fight and achieve their goal - they aren’t fussed about who is under the mask.

So, while this might be a continuity issue, the masks allow for a retcon of sorts, or at least an explanation as to why we shouldn’t think too hard on it.

This essential comic book series is expanding the history of the Star Wars prequels, shifting things around for more exciting scenarios to develop.
