Star Wars Outlaws physical copies require internet to install game

Star Wars Outlaws physical copies require internet to install game

Fans will not be happy with this Star Wars Outlaws requirement

One of the most highly anticipated video games yet to be released this year is Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws and recently, we were not only treated to a new story trailer but we also got a release date.

In collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and developed by Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft announced that it was working on the open-world game, Star Wars Outlaws in 2021 and 2023 we were finally treated to some gameplay footage and it did not disappoint. We knew that the open-world game was to be released this year, however, this week we learned that Star Wars Outlaws will be released on 30 August 2024.

Check out the Star Wars Outlaws story trailer below!

Star Wars Outlaws invites fans to experience a side of the galaxy that has a treasure trove yet to be explored, the exploits of the scoundrels taking advantage of the golden age of the underworld. We’ve been inspired by Massive Entertainment’s dedication to bringing this aspect of Star Wars to life, including both iconic and new things for fans to explore in an open world," said Douglas Reilly, vice president of Lucasfilm Games following this week’s release date reveal.

Star Wars Outlaws is a single-player game and judging by its most recent trailer, it gives me some Uncharted vibes. So, it would be safe to assume that with Star Wars Outlaws being a single-player game, it would not require an online connection, right?

Sadly, it seems that Star Wars Outlaws will require an internet connection to play, at least when it comes to its installation. In a tweet shared by Wario64, a close-up image was shared of the Star Wars Outlaws box art which read “Internet required to install the game.”

If this remains a requirement come release, it could lock people out from playing the game they have just paid good money for. Sure, most modern-day gamers will have an internet connection but not everyone has that luxury.

In an age when digital games are forever on the rise, gamers still like to collect physical copies for their collection and rightly so. Yet, if you’re unable to install a video game from a physical disc, it doesn't feel right.

Is this some form of DRM from Ubisoft to help restrict pre-owned games or sharing? We can only speculate but we hope that this particular requirement is removed when Star Wars Outlaws is eventually released.

Star Wars Outlaws arrives on August 30 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
