Star Wars Outlaws has a release date, and it's way sooner than I'd ever have expected. Like, way sooner. So soon, in fact, that I don't know whether to be elated or concerned.

Everything we've heard so far about the new Star Wars game sounds absolutely delicious. It's an open-world adventure from Ubisoft that looks as if it's as much inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2 as it is Assassin's Creed.

Star Wars: Outlaws puts us in the dusty boots of Kay Vess, a scoundrel who explores various planets taking on jobs and earning credits. Set between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, as the galactic civil war rages on, the crime syndicates of the outer rims are making the most of the chaos.

Take a look at the brand-new trailer below, and see if you can spot some familiar faces!

So as you probably clocked at the end of the new trailer, Star Wars Outlaws lands 30 August. That's soon, right? Not that I'm complaining, really.

The game looks like a ton of fun, and if Ubisoft is confident enough that it's in good enough shape to launch, then fingers crossed. Let's just hope it's not a rush-job, because I don't think my heart could take it.

A game like Star Wars Outlaws, with its open world made up of various planets and systems, will ultimately win or fail on the strength of the variety it offers. Will we take on the same small handful of quests over and over again on every planet? Or will there be enough to see and do that everything feels truly unique? I guess we'll find out for certain 30 August.
