Thanks to leaked information from the original screenwriter of the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, Star Wars fans now know exactly who Disney has in mind to play Luke Skywalker.

Back when the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series dropped on Disney+ back in 2022, everyone seemingly had the exact same thought: why was this a TV series, and not a movie?

Turns out, it was originally going to be a movie– actually, it was going to be three Star Wars movies.

We know this because Stuart Beattie, the screenwriter behind the first three episodes and the finale of the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, revealed this information The Direct's Nathan Johnson in an interview.

Beattie’s trilogy would have featured a bunch of interesting stuff, including the return of fan-favourite character Commander Cody, Obi-Wan struggling to restore his connection to the Force, and a slightly different climactic Vader vs. Obi-Wan duel (which would have seen them battling on a failing space station as it burned up in the atmosphere).

However, the most interesting part of the interview is actually about Luke Skywalker, as Beattie reveals that he would have played a much larger role in the films… and he supposedly would have been played by a de-aged Mark Hamill.

“And he sees a guy in a dark robe with a red lightsaber, and he’s like, ‘Anakin, Anakin, Anakin!’ And as… the guy in the robe comes up, he lifts his lightsaber, you see, it’s Luke. Mark Hamill, 19”, Beattie revealed.

“And so, Luke attacks him. Obi-Wan and Luke had this lightsaber battle in mine, which was mirroring, of course, Empire Strikes Back… so it was that kind of a thing that ends with, you know, Luke, just almost killing Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan is snapping out of the, you know, the vision…”

Ugh, it’s kind of upsetting reading all of this because damn, it sounds cool as hell.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries was fine, but this? This sounds awesome. Who the hell doesn’t want to see Vader and Obi-Wan duel on an exploding space station?!
