Yoda is one of the coolest Star Wars characters to ever exist, which says a lot when you remember he only exists because George Lucas needed a new master for Luke Skywalker.
When I first watched Star Wars I thought Obi-Wan Kenobi was awesome, making his death hit hard as I remember wondering how Luke was going to finish his training as a Jedi without him.
When I watched Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back for the first time I remember being amazed to learn Luke was going to be trained by the Jedi that “trained” Obi-Wan, and immediately adored Yoda when his identity was revealed.

What I’ve never really wondered though is exactly what Yoda is, and where he comes from, but other Star Wars fans have and it’s been debated on numerous occasions whether his origins should be explored or not.
On the one hand no one wants the mystique to be ruined, but on the other hand it would be nice to learn why there are so few “Yodas” in the galaxy.
“While I do think it's a good plot element to keep some things a mystery(especially given that I don't trust Disney to make it work), I can't help but feel it would be cool to get some answers on such a unique and sparse species” argued one Star Wars fan on Reddit.
Others agreed but still don’t think we should get any new lore, like one that said “Do I want lore on his species? Yes. Should I get lore on his species? No.” Another commenter followed on saying “this is the way.”

In a way that’s sort of the role that Grogu plays, as through him and his adventures on The Mandalorian we’ve learnt a little more about the species without fully exposing all of their secrets, hopefully it stays that way.
