Star Wars Battlefront’s comeback is a welcome surprise for fans, with many calling for EA to put Battlefront 3 into development.
Released in 2017, Dice’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 was met with a rather negative reception. Although there was a lot of good stuff in there, the progression system was something that players absolutely hated.
And they were right to—nobody wants to spend 40 hours grinding just to unlock enough points to buy one hero. It’s clear that it had to change.

Over the next few years, Dice took the time to clean up Battlefront 2 and fix its biggest issues. The progression system was much improved, the loot box economy was overhauled, and loads of new maps and modes were added over time.
Despite it now being over five years since the game last had an update, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has had a pretty big resurgence over the last few weeks.
GAMINGbible reported on Sunday that the all-time player count for Star Wars Battlefront 2 had hit nearly 28,000 players, a new all-time record for the game.
Since then, that number has crept up to over 35,000. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if it kept increasing over time due to word-of-mouth. It’ll probably see another big jump at the weekend.

Many fans attribute this jump in popularity to the recent airing of Andor Season 2 and Tales of the Underworld, as well as the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith and the fact the complete edition of the game is available on Xbox Game Pass.
“At the end of the day the game’s just a blast,” wrote one fan on the Games Reddit page. “Those things created the spike but word of mouth and just a genuinely fun game has kept the momentum going.”
“I grew up on the originals and liked this game a lot before it was ruined by hackers,” wrote another user. “They do make the heroes feel very fun and rewarding. Even the laser based ones are fun and strong. I do feel the map design is lacking, too many cramped chokepoints and narrow hallways for large servers."
“It really annoys me though that there wont be a Battlefront 3,” a third comment wrote. “There's clearly a huge appetite for it and there's so many little things that would make the game better (64 player MP, longer rounds, hero queueing, lower TTK, a more battlefield feel etc.).”

Hopefully the surprise resurgence of Battlefront 2 will send a clear message to EA and Disney that fans would love a third instalment.
