Star Wars Battlefront fans are divided as to whether we’ll ever get a third game in the series and we understand the concerns.
The Star Wars Battlefront series has had somewhat of a bumpy road of late, like Han Solo trying to navigate the Millennium Falcon through an asteroid field.
Some might say that the first games in the series developed by Pandemic Studios under the LucasArts publishing label was the series at its best, while some may prefer the games under EA, developed by DICE.

Not taking into account the remastered bundle of 2024, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, the last mainline entry in the series came with 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II.
In my opinion, fundamentally, when we talk of gameplay, visuals, and a fun story campaign inspired by the Star Wars movie franchise, as well as its multiplayer offering, I got a lot of joy from Star Wars Battlefront II.

However, this game was marred with over-excessive microtransactions and an off-putting in-game grind that intended to push players into spending even more money on top of the base game or even its Ultimate Edition.
To be fair, many of the issues that fans rightly complained about regarding Star Wars Battlefront II were fixed in the following months.
Unfortunately for EA and DICE, for the game that garnered the infamous tagline from EA trying to justify its microtransactions and grind with a sense of “pride and accomplishment,” the damage was already done.
Understandably, fans have been wondering whether we’ll ever get Star Wars Battlefront III and with the two previous games showing so much promise, its continued absence has left many fans with a lack of pride and accomplishment.

“Will there be a Battlefront III in the future?” asked Redditor KittyWithPS5. “Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Battlefront II were two of my favourite multiplayer games.”
“A Battlefront game is 99.9% guaranteed in the future, but by EA? Hopefully not. It’s proven it can’t handle the IP,” claimed vmh21, in response.
“Battlefront II was good after the pay2win elements were fixed,” replied Shearman360. “My only issues were the lack of seamless ground-to-air combat and the fact that support was cut before we got the Mustafar map.”
As a fan of the Star Wars Battlefront series, I’d love to see a brand new game released one day, but I just don’t have much hope for that to ever happen.

That being said, Star Wars Battlefront II does still have half-decent concurrent player numbers on Steam for a game nearly a decade old, so if you can gather a few friends, there might still be plenty of fun to be had.
Star Wars Battlefront II is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also backwards compatible on current-gen consoles.
