For many fans, Star Wars Battlefront is back and bigger than it’s ever been before.
Although Star Wars Battlefront 2 (that’s EA’s revival from 2017, not the original from Pandemic Studios) was poorly received at launch, Dice was able to improve on the game pretty significantly with patches and updates over time.
By the time the game stopped getting updates in 2020, many fans agreed that EA had managed to “save the game”, bringing it more in line with the potential it had at launch.

Battlefront 2 has been a pretty popular online game to play in the years since then, with Star Wars fans flocking to the game when they want some good ol’ fashioned Clone Trooper action.
The game has had a massive resurgence this year though, with player counts skyrocketing since May 2025.
On 20th/21st June, the Star Wars Battlefront 2 player count on Steam hit an all-time high of 27,896 concurrent players, according to Steam Charts.
As for why Battlefront 2 has seen increasing player counts recently, there are several reasons.

For one, the complete edition of the game was added to Xbox Game Pass recently. There was also the final season of Andor and 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith to consider.
Fortnite’s latest season is also Star Wars themed, and considering how big the community is, this probably had a large impact on these recent numbers.
Prior to May, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was only getting just over a thousand average daily players, so this is a huge jump in numbers.
With this resurgence comes hope for players wanting a Battlefront 3 (including our own Sam Cawley). A third entry that features other parts of Star Wars such as Andor, The Mandalorian, and The Acolyte seems like a natural step forward for the series.
