If there's one thing that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is probably more known for than anything else, it's the wild amount of bugs that Bethesda basically failed to do anything about since the game released in 2011.

Though they ruin the experience for a small minority, most see it as an intrinsic part of the game, an adorable set of foibles that make the game as magical and memorable as it absolutely is.

In all fairness to the developer, the subsequent editions of the game did a lot to address the most egregious, game-breaking bugs, and the Special Edition is likely one of the best RPGs you'll ever play, but that doesn't mean that every bug has been ironed out. That includes a particularly funny bug that has the potential to make one of the coolest companions in the game look pretty silly.

Mjolling it over

Over on Reddit, one Skyrim player shared how they came across a giant's club (no word on whether they were responsible for separating it from its master) and were unable to pick it up due to its immense size.

So far, so normal, but it's what they did next that seems to have busted the game up once again. Instead of continuing to try and pick it up themselves, they asked their companion Mjoll to give it a go, and she was able to pick it up with relative ease.

Since then, she has been using it to one-shot everything in sight which, whilst funny, isn't necessarily the playing experience OP wanted.

The real kicker came when they tried to get her to drop the club or change weapon, when it quickly became clear that wouldn't be possible, as the giant's club isn't really a useable item in the game's code.

The comments were predictably unsympathetic, with very few offering tangible solutions to the issue (beyond reloading an earlier save).

"Yeah, I'd say it looks like she has a bone to pick with you," one read. "You've become the NPC in her story now," another added.

One user did detail exactly what had happened, confirming the bad news that there is no way to get her to drop it, "Well she has it forever, if that's what you're asking. It's a fun glitch. It was originally supposed to be a weapon, but due to your exact issue with it, it was scrapped. But Bethesda being Bethesda, they left some of the weapon code in the game," they said.

"Essentially it's a weapon that you can't pick up because you don't actually have an inventory slot for it, but your follower CAN pick it up but they don't have an inventory slot for it either so you can't see it in their inventory to remove it."

With that, another Skyrim rite of passage was completed, as another player fell to the "reload the game or deal with it" nature of Bethesda's creation.
