Skyrim Gets Enormous Visual Overhaul You Can Download for Free Now

This is not a drill: there are now 8K wheels of cheese in Skyrim (and other stuff too, I guess)

This is the prettiest wheel of cheese I have ever seen in a videogame.

Oh, and also there’s a bunch of other stuff in Skyrim that got improved in this texture overhaul, but… seriously, that cheese is making me hungry.

I think Bethesda does great work. Sure, their games are a little buggy (understatement of the year), but I can’t deny that they’ve developed some of my favourite games of all time.

However, I think it’s fair to say that their games aren’t the most graphically impressive. Obviously rendering a huge open world comes with a lot of limitations, so I can’t fault them too much for it, but it’s still accurate to say that they’re somewhat behind their contemporaries in the graphical fidelity department.

Thankfully, that’s what mods are for, because this new texture overhaul makes Skyrim look like a game from 2025.

Skyrim 202X is a series of texture packs for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by Nexus Mods author Pfuscher, and there's not much I can tell you that you can't learn by simply scrolling through the pictures on the mod page.

According to Pfuscher, the mod contains over 2,200 files, which probably goes some way to explaining why the combined file size for the entire pack is around 40GB. Good lord.

But is it worth spending eight years downloading this all through Nexus? Yes, according to the comments.

“Wonderful mod, a lot of great work done. I appreciate the effort. Kudos & endorsements”, commented Nexus Mods user msx77412.

“just WoW! absolutely Incredible mods. Everything looks just jaw dropping beautiful now”, replied Nexus Mods user ree0.

I’m half tempted to just find out which one of the files has the cheese wheel texture and just install that.

It almost looks real… so real in fact that I’m getting kinda hungry. Think I might have to take my lunch break.
