A new free overhaul for Skyrim has completely reimagined the opening, and it might just be another reason to revisit the game.
Even after 14 years, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains one of the most popular RPGs of all time, and it’s showing no signs of stopping.
We can remember how we all felt in 2011 after escaping Helgen during the prologue, a scene which has become one of the most iconic moments in the entire game.
If you’re about to start what might feel like your 200th character though, a new mod might change up how you want to approach Skyrim’s opening prologue with a fresh perspective.

'Alternate Perspective Reborn' is a reimagining of Skyrim’s 'Alternate Perspective' mod, an expansion for the game’s prologue setting which allows you to begin the game as another character.
'Alternate Perspective Reborn' takes the original mod’s tavern setting, and instead places you high in the sky above Tamriel, with clouds swirling at your feet and the Sovngarde sky blazing overhead.
I think the idea here is that you are a warrior who has since passed into the afterlife, but instead gets a chance to be reborn as a new person.
It’s from here where the original mod’s functionality begins by allowing you to choose what kind of start you’d like to have.

This means that you won’t be starting as a prisoner on your way to be executed in Helgen, but instead can start as a range of other types of characters.
The intention here is to make the game feel more like an RPG with custom characters, where you can formulate even more kinds of backstories for them.
This also means Helgen doesn’t get destroyed in this playthrough, and you’ll be able to visit it and see how it functions as a proper town.
If you’re a veteran Skyrim player who wants to try a different perspective on the game’s opening hours, we’d recommend trying out these two mods.
