Skyrim collides with Dark Souls in new RPG launching next month

Tainted adventures await!

If we were told that there is an RPG comparable to a mixture of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dark Souls, it would most certainly pique our interest.

While both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dark Souls offer two different fantasy RPG adventures, neither is less immersive in its own right. Skyrim is about fantastical tales, mythical beasts and epic journeys.

Sure, the same could be said for FromSoftware’s Dark Souls, but you can expect the threat of death to be cranked up several notches. After all, there’s a reason why this series has the slogan “try not to die.”

Recently, Bethesda launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, a revitalised, Unreal Engine-powered version of the beloved game that originally launched in 2006.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been a hit with veteran and new fans alike, and hopefully, it should keep fans busy until The Elder Scrolls VI finally arrives.

We don’t know when the next Dark Souls game will be released (if at all), but if you’re missing new adventures in the likes of the Kingdom of Lordran and want something a bit different from The Elder Scrolls series, then Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon could be your cup of tea.

As brought to our attention by DSOGaming, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon first arrived on PC in March 2023 as a Steam early access title. Now, it’s nearly ready for its full launch next month.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is a video game adaptation of the tabletop game of the same name from Awaken Realms, and is developed by Questline.

“Step into a dark reimagination of Arthurian legends in this first-person, open-world RPG,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam. “Explore a world stuck in everlasting autumn, witness falling legends, and make meaningful choices woven into a complex, branching storyline.”

“This reminds me of the good old days with The Elder Scrolls, Might and Magic and other good RPGs,” said Steam user Drolock.

“I never thought I'd like to play a game like this with a bit of Skyrim and Dark Souls, but I love it,” exclaimed Raven.

If it looks like Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is your cup of tea, then you’ll be pleased to know that there is not only a free playable demo on Steam but also on Xbox and PlayStation.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon will be released in its full form on 23 May 2025.
