Fans of Skyrim and Dark Souls, and old-school RPGs in general, might want to add this retro-inspired demo to their to-do list.
Over multiple generations, we’ve had some fantastic RPGs that have immersed us as no other genre can. From The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Baldur’s Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Elden Ring, to name a few, gamers are never short of epic adventures to embark on.
We could be here all day debating as to which RPG video game is the best. That being said, if a gamer were to list their all-time top ten RPGs, two games stand a great chance of being mentioned: the aforementioned The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dark Souls.
However, long before the likes of Bethesda’s Skyrim and FromSoftware’s Dark Souls, we were treated to the likes of The Elder Scrolls: Arena on MD-DOS and King’s Field on the PlayStation, both released in 1994.

Of course, gaming has evolved a ton since that time, but sometimes, we love nothing more than to go back in time and get a taste of how games once were.
Sure, without a Flux Capacitor, that’s not possible, but with retro-inspired RPGs such as Queen’s Domain, it’s the closest we might get without retro consoles and emulation. The game is developed by the indie studio, Freshly Baked Games.
Queen’s Domain is for Old-School RPG Fans
“A retro-fantasy action RPG with brutal combat and traversal-focused exploration,” reads the synopsis of Queen’s Domain on Steam.
“Embark on a quest to find your father, who disappeared on the mysterious Isle of Neasied, where sinister forces gather, secrets hide everywhere, and the sleeping Queen has begun to stir…”
Gamers are Impressed With Queen’s Domain!
“Close enough! Welcome back, King's Field,” exclaimed otrades3320 in the comments section of its reveal trailer.
“King's Field, dare I say, almost a modern Shadow Tower vibes. I dig,” said Skylineian.
“Queen's.... Domain. I see what you did there. I'll look forward to the release,” spotted nowhereman3057.
Queen’s Domain does not have a release date at the time of writing, but you can download and play its free demo right now courtesy of Steam. Hopefully, seeing as the playable demo is out in the wild, its full release isn't too far off.
To keep up to date with the launch of Queen’s Domain, it might be worth adding it to your Steam wishlist and following the developers on social media.
