The release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered might have put a bit of a dampener on the efforts of the team working on enormously ambitious Skyrim mod Skyblivion but it's still a project that's well worth keeping an eye on as we move towards its eventual release.
If you aren’t familiar with it at all yet, Skyblivion is a volunteer-based project by the TESRenewal modding group that aims to remake Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. It is a hugely ambitious project that has been in active development for years, and the fact it still isn’t out yet may come as a surprise to many who were aware of the mod when it was announced.
Unfortunately, that release is a little bit further away than we might have expected as the project hits a bit of a delay, with the team still needing to finish off some quite important elements of the final product.

Skyblivion Won't Be Here For A While Yet
Over on YouTube, the team behind the game shared a video confirming that the release had been pushed to 2026, with the caption, “Unfortunately, that release is a little bit further away than we might have expected as the project hits another delay with the team still needing to finish off some quite important elements of the final product.”

In a post sharing the news over on Reddit, many were quick to weigh in with their thoughts, and the community was refreshingly encouraging. One user actually recommended a move from the Bethesda playbook, saying, “At some point I just want to tell them to just do what the Oblivion remaster did and just shadow drop it when it's done instead of all these posts about how next year will surely be the year.”
In response to that, one of the developers working on the mod gave a detailed response that actually provides some valuable insight into the process and what is going on with the project right now.

“Totally fair! Most of our updates are also tied to the need to recruit. However, we're in a great place now and are tackling the last few blockers,” the response read.
“Sorry to disappoint you and some of our community, though. I wish we could be releasing this year but it needs a little more time.”
As with all good things, they usually come to those who wait, so we’ll just have to sit tight and play one of the other versions of Oblivion to get our fix in the meantime.
