Horror gamers rejoice, because Silent Hill 2’s first-person mode is a pants-wetting delight.

Now just over a year old, the Silent Hill 2 remake is among horror fans’ picks for one of the spookiest games you can play of the past generation.

Although it’s already quite terrifying in its own regard, a brand new game mode available for the game has made it all the more scary with just a simple perspective shift.

As shared on the Silent Hill Reddit page, one player has developed a mod that puts Silent Hill 2 into a first-person perspective. The gameplay features the Abstract Daddy boss fight, where the player is seen running through the level’s hallways in first-person view.

In many ways, considering how scary the original release of the Silent Hill 2 remake was, putting it into first-person view feels like it’s taking the horror to the next level.

I mean, being able to look around corners or behind you in third-person at least gives you ways to prepare for any upcoming spooks. However, being forced into a first-person perspective means you’re less aware of your surroundings, so more dangers can come at you by surprise.

It gives the game a little more of a Resident Evil-esque style. Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village were played from a first-person perspective, after all, and that’s probably one of the biggest strengths of those games.

It's also worth pointing out that P.T., the playable teaser to the cancelled Silent Hills, was also played in first-person mode.

Silent Hill 2 fans want an official FPS mode

It seems that fans are also really enjoying the FPS mode for Silent Hill 2 as well, as seen from the comments inside the Reddit post.

“As a certified first-person sicko, I've been hoping for a good mod since before the game came out,” reads one comment. “I know there was one on Nexus pretty quickly that was in early stages, but the person who made it wasn't doing any more with it last I heard. This post made me check again and it looks like there's a new one being worked on, so now I'm very excited!”

“Pls Bloober give us first person,” reads another comment. Indeed, a lot of the comments in the thread seem to be asking for an official first-person mode, or even a VR mode.

“First person = maximum immersion = yes pls,” a third comment reads.

It sounds like players really want Bloober Team to make this official. With rumours of a new Silent Hill 2 DLC focused on Maria in the works, it’s possible that a first-person could be considered in a future update.

The opposite happened with Resident Evil Village, after all, where a new third-person mode was added for the release of the game’s Gold Edition.
