Scammers 'steal' Superman Unreal Engine 5 game and sell it on Steam

Scammers 'steal' Superman Unreal Engine 5 game and sell it on Steam

Scammers allegedly stole and uploaded the free fan-made Unreal Engine 5 Superman project to Steam - the original creator issued a takedown.

You might remember that earlier this year, a stunning mod of The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 Experience, of all things, took the world by storm. The mod transformed the tech demo into the Superman game of our dreams - forget the disaster of Superman 64, this fan-made project looks like the start of the Clark Kent action-adventure we always wanted.

The Unreal Engine 5 Superman project was created by YouTube user TJATOMICA (Tyson Butler-Boschma), who made it free to download for anyone who wanted to try zooming around the city themselves (assuming they have a good enough PC to run it, anyway). Unfortunately though, Insider Gaming reports that scammers recently stole the game, and have been attempting to resell it on Steam for profit.

While you’re here, take a look at the trailer for the latest DC movie, Black Adam, below.

The original creator claims that the game was being sold for around $10 on average on the Steam store, but was once listed at $50. He has allegedly filed a DMCA takedown, but has been receiving takedown requests himself on his YouTube channel , as well as abusive messages.

Allegedly, the scammers claim that the project’s creator is just trying “keep everything for himself”, but he says that he just wants to ensure that people aren’t paying for a game that they can download for free. Thankfully though, Insider Gaming writes that the listing appears to have been removed from Steam now, so the situation may have been resolved. It’s not known how many users may have bought the title while it was listed.

Despite these issues, the project is still free to download via the creator’s Itch.io page, so if you’ve not tried it before and want to give it a go, you can do so without having to spend a penny.
