Sam Neill clarifies cancer news in attempt reassure fans

Sam Neill has taken to Instagram to clarify that he's been in remission for several months after fans began to worry about his health.

Sam Neill, the actor arguably best known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World series, has been reassuring fans about his health after it was revealed that he’s been living with blood cancer.

The news was confirmed in Neill’s new memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This?. In an interview with The Guardian, he said: “I’m not afraid to die, but it would annoy me. Because I’d really like another decade or two, you know? We’ve built all these lovely terraces, we’ve got these olive trees and cypresses, and I want to be around to see it all mature. And I’ve got my lovely little grandchildren. I want to see them get big. But as for the dying? I couldn’t care less.”

Last year, Neill starred in the final movie of the Jurassic World trilogy, Jurassic World Dominion - take a look at the trailer below.

Understandably, many fans have become very concerned for the actor’s health, but as the Los Angeles Times reports, Neill has taken to Instagram to reiterate that he’s been in remission for some time now, and that fans shouldn’t “worry too much”.

“My news seems to be all over the news at the moment, and it’s sort of ‘Cancer! Cancer! Cancer!’ Which is slightly tiresome because as you see, I am alive and well and I have been in remission for eight months, which feels really good,” he said. “And I’m alive and kicking and I’m going to work. I’m very happy to be going back to work. […] Let’s not worry too much about ‘all that’ because I’m fine. Okay!”

Fans have been sending the actor their love: “Thank you for clearing this up and stay strong!” one Instagram user replied. “Big love to you from someone else who doesn’t want to be defined [by] ‘that thing’,” another wrote. “Stay well you absolute icon,” said another.
