Resident Evil fans united over our next remake

Capcom, you know it makes sense

Resident Evil 9 has officially been unveiled, titled Resident Evil: Requiem.

Capcom fooled us all at this year’s Summer Game Fest showcase, teasing that the game needed “a blink of an eye more” before it was ready to be unveiled, before dropping a reveal roughly 15 minutes later.

Following new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft, the game seemingly kicks off in the ruins of the Raccoon City Police Department where poor Grace finds herself hunted by a terrifying figure.

In our preview, GAMINGbible’s Sam Cawley wrote, “Resident Evil: Requiem already feels like the definitive Resident Evil experience, taking things back to true survival horror that’ll have even veteran players on the edge of their seat.”

With a new game having only just been confirmed, it feels a tad criminal to shift talk over to what’s coming beyond Requiem but that’s exactly what I’m about to do.

Requiem is the series’ next mainline entry, but fans are keen to know which remake is arriving next too.

In recent years, Capcom has launched a string of incredibly successful remakes - Resident Evil 4 (2023) being the most recent example.

It’s incredibly likely that another will land some time following the release of Requiem in February of next year.

As for which installment fans of the franchise are keen to see updated, it appears that Code Veronica is garnering the most votes.

“RE5 DOES NOT need a remake, RE1 ALREADY HAD a remake. Code Veronica can come [next],” wrote Twitter user wongfieId.

I’m in agreement that Code Veronica should be up next, but given that Resident Evil was last revisited in 2002, I’d also say that title is fair game.

“Code Veronica 100%,” added itspeternazario. “This and Outbreak would be huge.”

“Code Veronica. I’ve been salivating,” commented whymyvnus.

As for when the next remake may arrive, Resident Evil 4 arrived two years after Village.

With Requiem already confirmed for February 2026, does that mean a Code Veronica remake - if that’s what’s next in line - may not land until 2028? Oof, I hope not.
