Resident Evil 9 fans are torn about the upcoming Capcom release, and we can see why.

The Resident Evil series is one of the most iconic video game franchises of all time, scaring fans ever since the first game was released in 1996. Now, fans are hyped for the release of Resident Evil 9 (not its official title), eagerly awaiting an update from Capcom.

In 2024, Capcom announced that the next entry in the Resident Evil series is in development. However, since that time, we’ve heard nothing about its progress, at least officially.

At the time of writing, we do not know what story it will tell, where it will be set or what characters will feature. So it’s fair to say that fans are desperate for a Resident Evil 9 gameplay trailer and release date, to say the least.

Depending on what you choose to believe, Resident Evil 9 will be set on a remote island, but more interestingly, it may star Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine as playable characters. If true, it would be the first time the charismatic duo have starred together in a video game.

With that in mind, fans on Reddit have been discussing the next entry in the Capcom series. “Rumours Claim 'Resident Evil 9' is going to be an ambitious reinvention of the franchise,” reads a headline from Techcrawlr.

It should be stated that the “reinvention” claims are very vague and don't reveal all that much, which is why all rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

“We've seen fixed-camera, we've seen third-person over-the-shoulder, and we've seen first-person. Now get ready for second-person, we are the zombie,” jokes ItsJHos.

“My assumptions based on it being a ‘reinvention' of the series are that it’s going to have a melee focus,” suggests a Reddit user. “An open world structure of some kind and RPG/character building.”

“When Resident Evil goes silent for too long, the rumour machine and the ‘leakers’ go wild and most of the time, they end up being wrong,” exclaims Leon1189.

Hopefully, Capcom will reveal all the juicy Resident Evil 9 details in the coming months, and when it does, we’ll be here to provide an update.
