The pending arrival of Resident Evil 9 is one of the most worst-kept secrets in the video game industry right now with the rumour mill showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Recently, we’ve heard conflicting reports on the progress of Resident Evil 9. One rumour claimed that it’s been internally delayed by Capcom, yet a known leaker of information Dusk Golem claimed that Resident Evil 9 is about to be revealed very soon.

Now, in the same thread claiming that Resident Evil 9 is going to be revealed by Capcom soon, responding to a follower on Twitter, when asked about a potential location, Dusk Golem said: “A fictional rural town on an island in the Southeast Asia Sea inspired by Singapore specifically.”

If Singapore is the inspired location for the next Resident Evil game, it would certainly make for an intriguing choice, especially if it specifically takes place on an island and not the mainland. In particular, Singapore has two islands that are soaked in historical bloodshed

The island of Pulau Hantu is a place where ancient Malay warriors died during battle and their spirits are said to wander the land. Then we have the island of Sentosa known by locals as “the island behind which lies death” where countless battles had taken place between Singapore, Chinese and Japanese warriors.

Singapore also has an iconic mythical creature called Merlion which is a creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. So it would be interesting if Capcom would do its spin on the Merlion and not to mention, the two islands mentioned in this article could make for very fitting locations for a well-told horror story.

That all being said, all rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. Hopefully, Capcom will announce the next game in its Resident Evil series in the coming months.
