Resident Evil 9 is in development with Capcom right now, but folks aren’t quite sure where it’ll be set and which characters will be involved.

They have their ideas though, and most of them involve moving away from the more supernatural themes of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8: Village, and back to some good old-fashioned zombie survival drama.

Not to say the last two mainline games have been bad though, I’d have happily played another game as Ethan

Several Reddit threads have been made discussing potential Resident Evil settings the series could explore, though the prevailing idea is another “urban city setting,” as one fan put it.

They said “I'm also hoping they go back to the more sci-fi side of things. Less vampires, werewolves, and magic. More zombies, parasites, and gruesome mutations.

“I've said this before, but in my opinion, Resident Evil works better when it has the more ‘mad science gone wrong’ vibe.”

Another modern idea included a trip to Las Vegas or a fictional representation of one, with one fan saying “All the gambling machines mean potential for interesting puzzles as well (I think Revelations 1 had a puzzle casino, actually).” A great idea but perhaps too similar to Dead Rising 2.

One more good shout was described as “a Roswell-esqe small town you can explore with 50’s alien invasion style horror elements, with some cronenberg/lovecraft inspo thrown in for good measure. Invasion of the body snatchers type stuff.”

There are plenty of good ideas to go around, and it’ll be interesting to see what Capcom is cooking up for the next game.

While I’d love a more traditional adventure with zombies and the like, I wouldn’t be directly opposed to the series going down more avenues, just less supernatural and a bit more science-fiction I think.
