Let us face it: we all want Red Dead Redemption 3. However, it seems as though there is now a caveat with some fans declaring that we may not want a sequel after all.
Rockstar Games’ Red Dead series has gone on to become one of the best in gaming, praised for its narrative, characters, and open-world exploration.
With its latest entry, Red Dead Redemption 2, released back in 2018, fans are yet to hear information regarding the future of the franchise as Rockstar is currently hard at work on getting Grand Theft Auto VI out into the world.
However, with GTA VI set to release in May, it may not be long until we receive an update but a recent discovery could mean that Red Dead Redemption 3 may not be wanted after all.

Following his appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser spoke about the future of the Red Dead franchise and how he may not play a part in it at all.
Despite working on the original Grand Theft auto title and making it a household name, Houser reveals that it is Red Dead Redemption that has his heart which makes it all the more heartbreaking that he may not work on Red Dead Redemption 3.

After all, Houser revealed that Arthur having tuberculosis was based on his grandfather who also had it before the invention of antibiotics but luckily he survived.

Not only that but Red Dead Redemption was written just as he was about to start his own family and that in turn inspired John Marston’s story.
However, according to the co-founder, Red Dead Redemption 3 will “probably” happen without him.
Describing Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 as “a cohesive two-game arc”, he explained his situation in more detail.
"I don't own the IP ... that’s part of the deal. It's a privilege to work on stuff, but you don't necessarily own it", he explained.

It is the sad truth but one that not a lot of fans realised and as such, many have changed their minds about a potential third part to the story.
“Wild how you can create one of the most iconic game universes ever… and then just not own a single piece of it. The gaming industry is ruthless,” one user shared.
Red Dead Redemption would not be the same
Another agreed, adding, “RDR3 without Dan Houser? Feels off.”

It seems as though many agree with user Quickie summing it up.
“A Red Dead 3 without Dan Houser is like a Tarantino film without the dialogue.
They'll sell 30 million copies of a beautiful, hollow shell that proves his genius was the real soul of the series.”
It remains to be seen if Red Dead Redemption 3 is on the cards for Rockstar and if so, if Houser will be involved at all but it seems as though fans feel as though the heart would be missing from the potential sequel without him.
