Red Dead Redemption 3 Title and Setting Has Gamers Torn

How do you improve on perfection?

Although it is hard to improve on perfection, sometimes you just want more of what you love and that is most certainly the case with the Red Dead Redemption series.

Developed by Rockstar and widely regarded as one of the best video game series of all time, Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 have garnered a legion of fans over the years.

However, the future of the franchise remains an area of contention as how do you improve on perfection?

Shall we leave the story as it is or do we want more in the form of Red Dead Redemption 3?

Well, that is what one user over on r/reddeadredemption has been asking recently.

“Do you guys think Red Dead 3 should be a thing, or are you satisfied with what we got?” They asked.

With almost 100 comments submitted, it seems as though fans very much have their own opinions regarding if there should be a third instalment and, if so, where the story should be set and who our new protagonist should be.

“I'm 100% satisfied with both Red Dead 1 and 2. But there should absolutely be a third game,” user TheMadMan007 shared.

They go on to explain that the third part does not have to be a sequel or even a prequel but it should be the start of an anthology series.

This would mean that Red Dead 3 would take place in the same fictional universe but “in a different location and follow a whole new set of characters and stories.”

“I'd be fine with a couple little hidden Easter eggs, like a conversation between townsfolk referencing events from one of the two games,” they continued.

“But those references to older games in a series usually feel forced and shoehorned and lame. Honestly, I just want another Rockstar made Red Dead game that has the same level of care and polish.”

With almost 80 upvotes, it seems as though many fans agree with TheMadMan007 and it even sounds like a good idea to me.

Maybe pushing John and Arthur’s stories would be too much as our time with them came to an end in Red Dead Redemption 2 but there is no doubt that we need more of Rockstar’s exceptionally crafted world.

User MattTin56 agreed, adding, “This is the only answer we need. Both great games and I agree.

A new story like they have done with GTA. Why would they not keep it going. It’s a beloved game and genre.”

As of right now, Rockstar is yet to announce Red Dead Redemption 3 but with it being busy with finishing touches on Grand Theft Auto VI, that is unsurprising.

However, when GTA VI is finally launched in May 2026, maybe news of Red Dead will follow. Fingers crossed.
