Has your favourite horse ever met an untimely end in Rockstar Games’ cowboy simulator Red Dead Redemption 2, only for you to realise you’re out of Horse Revivers?

Well, it turns out there’s a cheeky way to ensure your equine buddy’s fate isn’t a permanent one– although I don’t think the developers intended for said method to actually work.

There are a million ways your horse can die in Red Dead Redemption 2. They can quite easily perish by falling off a mountain, getting struck by a train, or, more classically, getting shot in the face.

One user over on the r/RDR2 subreddit got in a little bit of trouble when their horse was shot by the law enforcement in Saint Denis, and by “a little” I mean they murdered a bunch of people in a blind rage and racked up a $7,500 bounty in the process.

However, a couple of users in the thread pointed out that this could have all been avoided, and offered two different solutions to ensure that your horse survives any kind of fatal brush with death.

Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.

“Whenever your horse dies, or you die, if you quickly pause the game and quit it, when you restart the game your horse will be there waiting for you,” commented user ouijahead.

“Everyone saying, 'This is the way,' yet this is doing too much lol,” replied user hotgirl. “Quit the game and restart? All you do is reload the latest autosave. If you’re restarting the game, that’s exactly what the game is doing anyways.”

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s just called save-scumming either way but, hey, sometimes you gotta do stuff like this to save your in-game besties.

Honestly I’ve still not forgiven the game for that one unavoidable horse death. As if what happens after that isn’t sad enough already…
