RDR2 New-Gen Update Exists, Insider Leaks Fresh Details

Not all hope is lost

Despite being one of the most beloved video games of all time, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still yet to welcome a new-gen port but fear not as a recent comment may just reignite that lost hope.

First released back in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 by Rockstar Games is widely regarded as one of the best video games ever made, bagging itself over 175 Game of the Year awards, and, thanks to 79 million copies sold, is currently the fourth-best-selling title of all time.

However, despite all of these accolades, Red Dead Redemption 2 is yet to receive PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, despite their development being speculated for many years.

As of right now, RDR2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. But with new-gen consoles now being the norm in most households, Rockstar is missing out on those PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports.

That being said, not all is lost as, thanks to one industry insider, we may finally have an update on a potential new-gen port.

Courtesy of Youtuber Reece Reilly, who is no stranger to the occasional leak, around eight different developers at Rockstar have revealed that they have previously worked on Red Dead Redemption 2’s new-gen port in some capacity.

Insiders Are Feeling Hopeful

As a result, Reilly believes that “it will come at some point”.

“I can tell you 100% I know eight devs that worked on RDR2 next gen,” their recent social media post reads.

“It is a thing but Rockstar do whatever they want to do regarding release dates, maybe GTA 6 dev timelines changed the release schedule for everything, who knows, all I know is that I know devs have worked on it and it will come at some point.”

Reilly does not provide any further details and, as always, it is worth taking this comment with a pinch of salt until it is either confirmed or denied by Rockstar itself.

Nevertheless, with the studio currently hard at work on getting Grand Theft Auto VI ready for its November release, it would make sense why a potential RDR2 port has been delayed.

Not only that, but it's worth remembering that Rockstar is yet to even announce this port. So it may not even happen at all.

It would be a shame not to receive that new-gen update, but it is safe to assume that Rockstar already has its hands full at the moment with a CERTAIN game pencilled to launch in November 2026.

Eh, they can't be that busy, surely?
