Red Dead Redemption 2 players still haven’t found one of its biggest secrets, and they likely never will.
As gamers wait for the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI, many are finding comfort in some of Rockstar Games’ other titles.
One such game is Red Dead Redemption 2 which has to be one of the most replayed games of the decade by now. Almost every playthrough tells you something you didn’t know before and exploring all of its secrets has been a blast.
New discoveries are practically being made in Red Dead Redemption 2 every other week like the infamous spider web mystery but the secret we’re talking about today is more aquatic in nature.
When Arthur Morgan isn’t warring with his former friend Dutch or completing side-quests for cash, he’s likely out in the wilderness, taking in the sights and catching big game.

In order to challenge the player, Rockstar added in several elusive or formidable creatures, deemed Legendary in the game.
While you’ll find a lot of these creatures on land you’ll also find them in the water in the form of legendary fish.
One such fish is called the Legendary Channel Catfish and while it does exist in the game’s files it’ll forever remain out of grasp…
Reddit user C0mposed_Associate discovered this while sharing a picture of the in-game map, which gets updated with pictures of the creatures Arthur encounters on his travels. The image they shared was that of the rare Legendary Largemouth Bass but the Legendary Channel Catfish is even rarer than that as it’s officially unobtainable.
Another Reddit user called Shamelesscreature broke it down in the comments, saying: ”That's the Legendary Largemouth Bass which can be caught. The uncatchable Legendary Channel Catfish is further east and only appears on the map after completing the whole mission.”
While the player is unable to catch the fish in-game, it does technically exist in the game’s files. It’s fully modelled and apparently if you mod it into the game, it’ll swim like any other fish you’ll find. However it still can’t be caught.
The in-game compendium reckons the catfish is “over 90 inches long and weighing around 180 pounds” which is apparently why no fisherman has been able to reel it in.
Now this isn’t a ground-breaking secret by any means but it’s still an interesting one especially when Rockstar went to the trouble of giving it an in-game model when most players won’t be able to see it for themselves.
While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, GTA VI is said to bring back the fishing minigame from Red Dead Redemption 2, so perhaps the Legendary Channel Catfish will finally be obtainable then.
