'Rainbow Six Mobile' Officially Announced By Ubisoft, Basically 'Siege' On The Go

The hugely successful franchise is finally opening up to a mobile audience.

The success of Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six franchise can’t be understated. With an impressive 80 million players around the globe, the series has helped define the tactical FPS genre, particularly thanks to the eSports-friendly Siege. Well, Ubisoft are now bringing their intense gameplay style to the portable market.

Rainbow Six Mobile is essentially Siege on your phone. Featuring almost identical in-game mechanics, familiar locations - Bank and Border are among the playable maps - and a selection of characters straight out of their competitive PvP title, Mobile looks set to deliver the same high-octane thrill for a whole new market.

Each match pits two teams of five against each other in online play. One team attacks while the other defends, so plan your moves accordingly based on which side you’re on. It’s not a run-and-gun affair. Instead, the emphasis is on tactics and strategy. Take this as your warning before jumping into the action.

There are a variety of operators to choose from, with each one offering their own unique skill set. Franchise fans will recognise these characters, from the defensively-minded Rook, to the infiltrator Hibana. Different operators have different advantages, so you’ll want to experiment and find out who works best for you.

Rainbow Six Mobile will offer multiple game modes at launch, mixing up the 5v5 experience. It’s worth noting that the team numbers are always the same, though, so that consistency should help when adjusting to new modes or maps.

Ubisoft say the game has been “developed and optimised for mobile”, with customisable controls to better suit player preference. These commands will be visible in the HUD, and it’s another chance to experiment and make the game your own.
