Pokimane Facing Backlash After Posting Depp Vs Heard Meme

"You’re evil"

Twitch streamer and internet superstar Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys has found herself in hot water for sharing a meme making light of the ongoing Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial.

Depp has brought a $50million defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Heard, in which the former Pirates Of The Caribbean star alleges that the many accusations of abuse Heard has made against him are false. The ongoing court case has brought to light troubling accusations of physical and emotional abuse on both sides, and isn't really a laughing matter.

And yet, the world has managed to treat the whole thing like a bit of a joke. Between the tasteless Saturday Night Live sketches and endless TikTok's making light of the situation, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that Depp vs. Heard is actually a very serious case.

It's no different on Twitch. Many top streamers have taken it upon themselves to livestream the ongoing trial, often sharing their hot takes and the occasional joke in between the testimonies recounting harrowing tales of an increasingly volatile and abusive relationship.

Anys posted her first video about the trial on May 3, joking that Heard had “Googled how to look sad” in court. The streamer has been watching along since then, and on May 17 she decided to share an ill-advised meme in which Pam from The Office remarks that two different photos of Heard's bruises are "the same picture".

While there have been many, many tasteless memes made and shared in relation to the Depp vs. Heard case, the fact someone as notable as Anys had decided to share one drew immediate criticism.

“Ah yes let’s make memes and jokes about this case cuz this will definitely not affect anyone in the same situation," wrote one user (via Dexerto).

“Love mocking a huge domestic abuse case!! This will definitely not signal that I’m a terrible person to come to in case you’re being abused," added another.

“Imagine making a 'meme' using pictures of a domestic violence survivor’s bruises. you’re evil,” a third stated.

Anys has since deleted the tweet and has yet to comment on the incident further.
