Pokemon Winds and Waves have been officially confirmed as the Generation 10 mainline games.

Representing the milestone Generation 10, Pokemon Winds and Waves were announced as part of the franchise's 30th Anniversary celebration streams.

Fans everywhere are absolutely blown away by the improvement to the graphics - something that Pokemon has been criticized for in recent years.

After Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s poor open-world performance on the Nintendo Switch 1 and the massively positive reception to the 60fps Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade, it's likely they'll be Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Looks Very Tropical

The debut trailer introduced us to a brand new region, a sprawling archipelago of islands, somewhat reminiscent of Alola. The environmental detail is a clear showcase of the new hardware's capabilities.

I'm really impressed with how beautiful the graphics look and how many Pokemon are in the overworld at any given time.

Meet Your New Generation 10 Starter Pokemon

No generation reveal is complete without the starters, and Generation 10 delivers a trio that I think is going to be very controversial.

I don't think I'm sold, myself. They're quite cute, but they do give off a bit 'fakemon' energy.

Our Grass-type starter is Browt - a cute, yet grump green bird Pokemon.

Pombon is our Fire-type starter. Likely to be a bipedal Fire/Fighting when fully evolved. I'm kidding, though it is possible, if history is anything to go by.

Our Water-type starter is Gecqua, which looks a little like a very flat Sobble from Generation 8.

I'm not usually a Fire-type Trainer, but I think Pombon will be the most popular, hands-down. I'm loving this trend of every generation introducing the cutest dog Pokemon you've ever seen. Fidough from Generation 9 is in my top 10.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Lets You Dive Underwater

Every recent generation has had a battle mechanic that spices up the turn-based combat. We didn't get a look at anything in the trailer, but we did see one thing that had me, a certified Generation 3 lover, sit up.

It seems like you'll be able to dive underwater! Hopefully this doesn't mean HMs make a return.

This reminds me a bit of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Depths mechanic. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case, but I really hope it feels more fleshed out.

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are slated for a simultaneous worldwide release in 2027. As soon as we have a concrete release date, we'll let you know!
