A Pokémon Red and Blue fan has recreated the classic games in stunning HD-2D and we want them now!

Pokémon Red and Blue were first released way back in 1998 for the original Nintendo Game Boy and for many, these classic RPG entries are the pinnacle of the series.

Despite being limited to just 8-bit visuals and very basic green palettes, that didn't stop would-be Pokémon trainers from exploring the enticing Kanto world to eventually become Master Trainers. Back then, imagination and fun gameplay were more than enough to tell an epic story.

However, as reported by GameSpot, a fan has now created stunning HD-2D remakes and to be perfectly honest, I think this is the best the Pokémon series has ever looked with visuals seemingly inspired by Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler.

The talented 3D pixel artist responsible for the stunning remakes goes by the name of Dott and they have uploaded videos on their YouTube channel showcasing their masterful work. In case you’re interested, the channel also has some Chrono Trigger, Terranigma and Final Fantasy Tactics pixel art remakes.

What’s more, in the Pokémon remake videos, we also get a comparison to the original, so that we can see both versions simultaneously side-by-side. We also get to see Ash explore locations such as Vermilion City, and Pallet Town.

There is something truly special about the pixel art style, especially when it’s modernised in 2.5D. It offers a heavy dose of nostalgia, with a hint of modern-day advances. Personally, I’d much prefer to see a classic Pokémon game remade by Nintendo in this way.

If this glorious pixel art is for you, then you should check out our review of Octopath Traveler II, our Catherine said: “ is overflowing with heart and soul, and is an absolute joy to experience.

“Ever since I loaded up the game, I’ve wanted to do little more than explore Solistia, perfect my team and fight all the tough bosses I can find, even if only to listen to the outstanding music that will surely accompany the fight. If you’re going to dedicate your time to any long RPG this year, let it be this one.”
