Pokémon Gamers Losing Their Minds Over New Gen 3 Remake

And no, before you ask; I don't mean Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

This brand new take on Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire is already a huge hit with the fans, but I’m mostly just baffled that one person managed to do all of this almost entirely by themselves.

Pokémon’s Ruby and Sapphire’s remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, are somehow already more than 10 years old, but a lot of fans weren’t too keen on the changes that Game Freak made to the Gen 3 titles.

Well, if you fancy a more faithful take on the original games, then I have just the ROMhack for you: Pokémon Royal Sapphire.

The new release was developed by Gongas, and the full release dropped last Sunday.

Gongas describes Pokémon Royal Sapphire as a "heavy enhancement-reimagined version of Pokémon Sapphire", and noted that they specifically wanted to retain the "nostalgic feel" of the original Gen 3 mechanics in their release.

Pokémon Royal Sapphire isn't just your standard ROMhack however, as it features a bunch of new, custom-made additions, including new trainer sprites, new maps, a fresh set of starter 'Mons, and even an extended post-game.

If you want to play it for yourself, I highly suggest heading over to Gongas’ Twitter post and reading how to get it running!

And, as Gongas states in their own post, this is a completely legal endeavour on their behalf.

Nintendo’s overly-litigious side won’t be rearing its ugly head this time around, because the ROMhack is merely a free patch for the full game. Nothing here is against Nintendo’s terms of service (as long as you use a legally obtained ROM of the game to play it).

And if you have already downloaded it prior to this, make sure you check out Gongas’ update patches so you can get the latest version of the patch for Pokémon Royal Sapphire.
