This All-Black PlayStation 5 Console Is Way Better Than The Standard Model

This All-Black PlayStation 5 Console Is Way Better Than The Standard Model

Sleek.

I kind of feel bad for the PlayStation 5. Sony's upcoming next-gen console was finally revealed last month, but it's pearly white body and sci-fi curves weren't quite to everyone's tastes. The poor thing has suffered mercilessly at the hands of internet japesters who've compared it to everything from WALL-E to an Ethernet hub.

For the record, I quite like the way it looks. My only complaint, really, is the colour. I'm not a fan of the white at all, if only because I could see it getting dirtier a lot quicker. It's not like I plan to drag my PS5 and DualSense controller through the mud or anything, but sweat, dust and dirt build up. I also have a cat with a penchant for ruining everything nice and expensive that I own, so... white is a no for me.

Let us pray that Sony is planning to release an all-black edition then, because this gorgeous black mockup created by Snoreyn and LetsGoDigital is a sleek, sexy beast. They've even included a black DualSense controller, which is way better than the current design, imo.

Take a look at it in "action" via the video below - or head here to watch it at the source.

This is the PS5 I want for Christmas. I also appreciate the way in which the mockup video perfectly apes the official Sony reveal. This could quite easily be the real deal, and I feel confident in suggesting I'm not the only one who'd go bananas for this darker piece of hardware.

Does it still look a bit like a router? Yes. Do I really care that much when it looks this cool? No. It's surely only a matter of time before Sony shows off an official black model, because it would absolutely be the overwhelmingly popular choice. Last month, PlayStation's vice-president of UX design, Matt MacLaurin took to LinkedIn (of all places) to tease some "beautiful" special edition consoles.

Shortly after explaining why the console is so much larger than the PlayStation 4, he spoke a little about the next-gen machine's completely overhauled UI, and added that we "can count on even more beautiful (and hopefully radical) special editions" beyond the standard white edition.

I can't imagine for a second that "radical" would be a term used to describe a black edition, but let's just wait and see. Sony is rumoured to be holding another PS5 event in August, so we might see something then.
