The PlayStation Portal is celebrating its two year anniversary this month and the remote player has come a long way since then, with a ton of features that really make it an accessory worth having if you're a PS5 main.

If you're unfamiliar with it, the device essentially allows you to stream games directly from your console, allowing you to play in another room or stream while you keep an eye on that food you have in the oven.

Sony has really poured plenty of attention into the Portal over the last year and they've trialled several major features, one of which has just made its full debut, and it should revolutionise how you play.

PS Portal Gets Cloud Streaming

Last year, Sony announced that they were testing Cloud Streaming via a beta, that by all accounts went very well at the time. Now, it's rolling out properly for everyone to take advantage of, and if you're subscribed to PlayStation Plus, it's a pretty big step.

Essentially, if you're a PlayStation Plus Premium subscriber, you'll be able to stream games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog via Cloud Streaming, without the need to connect to a PS5 console through Remote Play.

Additionally, members can stream games that they own digitally directly from their own library (again without the console being on), as long as the game supports the feature. Though there are no specific numbers, Sony's blog post on the topic claims "thousands" of games are currently playable using the system.

The PlayStation Plus catalogue includes "hundreds" of games in its own right, including heavy hitters like Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, all streamable directly from the cloud.

There are some other updates rolling out at the same time that should improve the experience further, including a new, streamlined UI, home screen and search system, as well as 3D Audio support, during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming, when playing games that support the function.

Lastly, they round out the new offering with some additional accessibility features that should make everything a little more legible on the smaller screen.

The new stuff is set to roll out on Starting on 5 November at 6pm PT / 6 November at 2am GMT, so if you log-in after that you should find an update available to get the ball rolling.
