PlayStation Plus Subscribers Wary Of April 2022 Free Games

Here we go again

PlayStation Plus subscribers are expressing their concern over the free PS Plus games for April 2022, citing the year so far as reason to be wary.

2022 has certainly seen some ups and downs for PlayStation Plus users. While there have been some genuinely excellent surprises - including Ghost Of Tsushima Legends and GTA Online - there've also been some stinkers. Subscribers won't soon forget the inclusion of Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep - a nine-year-old DLC for Borderlands 2 - in February.

While the free games for April have yet to be confirmed (they'll be officially announced at the end of the month and doubtless leaked a few days before that), fans are already bracing themselves for disappointment in an uneven year.

In a widely upvoted post on the PS Plus subreddit, one user pointed out that last April as a rather excellent double bill of Days Gone and Oddworld Soulstorm. "Hopefully they will put a solid lineup this April, because this year has been a complete sh*tshow," they said.

"It hasn’t been great for folks who like third-person single player action games," agreed one commenter. "Last PS Plus game I played was A Plague Tale, which I enjoyed. The rest are genres that I normally would never buy or play."

"Based on the last 3-5 months of games, I have a feeling they are funneling money into the new service so they have a strong lineup when they finally announce it," another added in reference to the rumours that Sony is planning a completely overhauled PS plus service this year.

Other users, however, feel that PS Plus has been treated harshly so far this year, pointing out that there have been plenty of great games to choose from.

"I dunno man, I know people are mad because of that Tiny Tina DLC bullsh*t, but Dirt 5, Ghostrunner, Deep Rock Galactic, Persona, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, are such great titles, I don't necessarily think this year is that bad," reasoned one fan.

"Deep Rock Galactic is probably my favorite PS Plus game ever released, 10/10," a second agreed. "Then we also got Persona 5S, Planet Coaster, and Ghostrunner which are all 9/10 games in my opinion! Then Dirt 5 and Sonic Racing are fun 7/10 racing games. Tiny Tina is good, but a slap to the face for people who already got the full borderlands collection a few years backs. UFC and ARK have been the only games I don’t like so far this year!"

Hopefully April's games can win some users back over. But if we've learned anything from several years of PS Plus, it's that it's quite literally impossible to please everyone.
