PlayStation Plus adding feature fans have been crying out for

And might pave the way for other games to follow suit.

Retroactively, a classic arcade shooter has gotten trophies on PlayStation Plus Premium, apparently paving the way for further games from the archives to get a new lease of life through these achievements.

Super Stardust Portable is the PSP version of Super Stardust HD and is available through PlayStation Plus Premium, the tier that offers subscribers a selection of classic games to play. Premium also allows access to game trials, like The Last of Us Part I and Gotham Knights, so it's certainly one to consider if you can spare the extra pennies.

Get a glimpse of what lies in store for The Last of Us on HBO here:

While it's a decent port of its predecessor, what's really got the gang going is the addition of trophies to the game. Super Stardust Portable was released before trophies were a thing for PlayStation players, and although Sony said that trophy support wasn't a necessity for these classic games when we're playing them in 2023, it is apparently possible. What determines whether or not a old game gets trophies is unknown - as Eurogamer's Ed Nightingale points out, LocoRoco doesn't have trophies on PlayStation Plus Premium.

Super Stardust Portable, funnily enough, was developed by Housemarque. Yes, the Housemarque that gave us the phenomenal sci-fi horror Returnal back in 2021. Not only did it knock our own socks off, it was impressive enough that Sony acquired the developer only a few months following the game's launch.

"I have been a fan of Housemarque since the studio's early days when they introduced Super Stardust HD to PlayStation fans, said head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst. "The studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community. This addition enhances the creative force of PlayStation Studios, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Housemarque."
