Following the latest firmware update to PlayStation 4, players are finding that their console is the worst it's ever been, with some even reporting that the product is bricked.

With regard to the last-gen console, update 9.00 improves parental controls by sending a notification through the PlayStation 4 and its app to the parent or guardian if the child requests to use communication features for a game. Furthermore, the PS Remote Play app will now work using mobile data and owners of groups are able to delete their groups for all members.

Most importantly, of course, it now lets you see PlayStation 5 trophies on the PlayStation 4 in its shared trophy collection. Players take immense pride in their trophies, and that's not a dig, because I'm one of them. I'm currently trying to collect 'em all for Deathloop because I'm a glutton for punishment. Seriously, some of those are hard.

Unfortunately, significant issues appear to be occurring across the base, Slim, and Pro PlayStation 4 models and users have congregated on Reddit to share their experiences. "Since I downloaded the new 9.00 update it keeps saying my data is corrupted. This has never happened before and I don't want to have to initialize my ps4," complained one.

The overarching change that pops up the most in people's reports is that the console is now super slow. "Yeah this patch definitely bricked my console, I can't do anything now and it's taking forever to change between menus," added Reddit user TheIronGhost. Others are saying that the apps on their PlayStation 4 won't even open and a few must restart their console to start playing a game.

This is disheartening news to see a lot of people struggling with the new update and it doesn't make sense, given that Sony trialed the 9.00 beta in July. If these issues weren't happening two months ago then it's a curiosity that they are appearing now and to this scale. To those who haven't updated yet, perhaps hold off until Sony is able to address what's gone wrong.
